June marked an exciting new chapter for my creative journey with the re-branding of The Kernow Creative to Rachel's Scribbles. But what exactly does this change mean, and why have I decided to take my artwork in a new direction?
Streamlining and Finding Focus
Over the last four and a half years, I have thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering my love of art. During that time, I've experimented with a wide variety of mediums, including acrylic paints, spray paints, watercolours, paint pouring, and even hand-painted candles.
While I have loved exploring different creative avenues, one thing has become increasingly clear: the overwhelming favourite among my audience has always been my animal scribble portraits.
As my collection of work grew, so did the number of ideas, projects, and plans competing for my attention. What started as creative enthusiasm often left me feeling overwhelmed and unfocused. Trying to juggle multiple artistic projects at once made it difficult to give each one the attention it deserved, and at times I found myself feeling that the quality of my work wasn't meeting my own expectations.
Art has always been my way to relax and switch off from the demands of everyday life. Instead, it was beginning to feel like another source of pressure. Gradually, I found myself avoiding it altogether. Something that once brought me joy had started to feel like a chore.
That's when I realised a change was needed.
Why Scribbles?
The decision to focus on scribble portraits is both practical and personal.
My partner and I are currently in the middle of building our home, and while construction is underway, we're living in a static caravan. Space is limited, making many of the messier art forms difficult to pursue.
Scribbling, however, requires very little: a pen, a piece of paper, and a reference photograph. It's something I can pick up in the evening while relaxing in front of the television, with no complicated setup and no lengthy cleanup. It also fits perfectly around my life as a farm veterinarian, allowing me to work between jobs, during quiet moments on call, or whenever inspiration strikes.
Most importantly, I genuinely love the process.
There are no strict rules, no boundaries, and no pressure for perfection. The lines flow naturally, creating portraits that capture personality and character in a way that feels authentic to me.
Looking Ahead
As Rachel's Scribbles, I am now focusing on building a series of themed collections that reflect both my passions and my way of life.
The collections I plan to build include:
- On The Farm
- Out Of The Wild
- At One With Nature
- Beneath The Sea
These themes represent the animals, environments, and experiences that have shaped who I am. They reflect my career, my home, and the deep appreciation I have for the natural world.
Alongside continuing to create fine art prints and greeting cards, I am also exploring opportunities to expand into homeware products such as coasters, cushion covers, and tote bags. I am hoping to work with local independent businesses to stock these products and to meet customers face-to-face at craft fairs and local events.

Commission work has played a huge role in building my following and helping my business grow. Every customer who has trusted me to create a portrait, shared my work with friends and family, or recommended me to others has contributed to this journey.
Much of my business has grown through word of mouth, and that's something I value enormously. The support I've received over the years has been incredible, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of the story so far.
This re-brand isn't about leaving anything behind. It's about embracing what I love most, focusing on what inspires me, and creating artwork that feels true to who I am.
